Advanced Certificate in Audio Visual Communication

The College’s Media Department comprises of three primary areas of study; Journalism and Photography and Sound Engineering and Technology and the Advanced Certificate in Audio Visual Media, -Level 6. The College boasts state of the art facilites in both visual and audio media and has a professional, industry standard recording studio on its Johnstown Campus. There are three areas of study within the Media Department;

Journalism & Photography- Level 5

A one year course which concentrates on the Media Industry. Certification is FETAC Level 5 Media Production Award. Modules include; Writing for Journalism, Radio Broadcasting, Media Analysis, Communications, Image Processing, Photography, Digital Movie Processing and Work Experience.

This course is ideal for students who wish to pursue a career in Journalism both print and broadcast, or would like to pursue a career in photography. Student membership of the NUJ is automatic for students on this course.

Sound Engineering & Music Technology- Level 5

A one year course which focuses on the Music Industry. Certification is FETAC Level 5 Sound Production. Modules include; Music Industry Studies, Music Technology and Engineering, Image Processing, Digital Movie Processing, Sound Technology, Radio Programme Production, Communications and Work Experience.

This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge to promote, produce and market original music, giving insight into marketing techniques and industry standards. We also offer studies in the fields of audio for film and gaming as well as focusing on the production of music videos and viral advertising online.

Advanced Certificate in Audio Visual Media – Level 6

An exciting and experimental new course that explores the narratives of the modern world and the concept of image and audio soundscape creation. Game audio design is also looked at and students produce both a film and radio documentary during the year. Students are encouraged to set up their own audio visual companies after graduation. Ideal for Level 5 applicants who have completed a course in any aspect of the arts, media, music, photography etc. Applicants must have a Level 5 QQI qualification and/ or be a mature student with commensurate experience in the media industry.
